The
representative of the industry in the Ministry of Energy and Industry and Mineral
Resources, Faris Al Shdokhi has explained to the workshop that the amount of consumption of
the Kingdom of plastic is up to 3 million tons per year of all types of
plastic.
Al
Shdokhi said that the
amount of waste in the Kingdom reachs 12 million tons per year at a rate of
1.25 kg per person, and the percentage of plastic waste is approximately 17% of
the total waste of about 2 million tons, in a workshop organized by Asharqia Chamber in collaboration with the ministry on Thursday morning, October 13, 2016
entitled (plastic recycling) in the
headquarters of the chamber, chaired by Head of the Industrial Committee
Abdullah bin Ali Al Sanae.
Al Shdokhi also
noted in the meeting, which was attended by Industrial and
environment Committee in the chamber and
a number of investors in the industrial sector ,that plastic recycling is one
of the toughest recycling operations due to the different types of plastic, and
the phase of the plastic waste
collecting is the toughest stage, separating it from the source which has a great
effect on the possibility of the development of the industry, stressing that it
was noticed in recent years that the industry began operate randomly, which
caused the entry of a retarded labor to it, that affected the industry negatively,
about the desired goals of this project, Al Shdokhi said that the industrial
sector improvement and finding investment
opportunities represents the most important goals, and that can be achieved after
some steps, including: requirements and regulations for the manufacture of
plastic recycling, and contributing to the application requirements for the
recycling of other waste such as aluminum, iron, copper, wood, paper and
creating investment and functional opportunities and contributing in the gross
domestic production.
Regarding the amount of the industry of plastics
recycling, he said that if the increase of
the proportion of the industry is up to
20% that will be reflected on the
increase in the gross domestic production of more than 250 million riyals a year, in
addition to providing more than 300
investment opportunites for small and medium institutions, and the preservation
of the environment and plastic waste, and also increasing exports.
Al Shdokhi said
that the ministry also has several notes after visiting 30 factories in the
regions of Riyadh, Jeddah and The Eastern Region on which the recycling project
will launch.
Al Shdokhi said
that the ministry and through the study has reached several recommendations
that contribute to the improvement of the recycling industry.
