Prince Mohammed Soccer Kicks Off Aug 23
The Prince Mohammed Bin Fahd Soccer Tournament for the companies kicks off on August 23, 2009 (Ramadan 2, 1430) at the Al-Raka Sports Green Hall in Al Khobar amid great fanfare. Organized by Asharqia Chamber, 40 teams divided into eight groups will participate in the event.
A number of social and sports personalities, athletes and high-ranking government officials will attend the opening ceremony of the tournament. It is a unique sports event organized for the first time in the region with teams drawn from various companies. Its main objective is to create enthusiasm and interest of company employees as well as general public in games and sports which are essential to developing a healthy generation and to support charitable organizations.
The Organizing Committee of the tournament recently held a meeting to review the preparations of the event with Mr. Sami Abu Suraih, Assistant Secretary General ( Media & Public Relations) of the Chamber, in the chair. The Organizing Committee has put in all out efforts to make the soccer event a resounding success.
Earlier, a draw to confirm the teams' participation in groups was held at the Asharqia Chamber. Mr. Adnan A. Al Nueim, Secretary General of the Chamber, inaugurated the draw ceremony in the presence of a number of country's renowned footballers, sportsmen, representatives of participating companies and local leading personalities.
The proceeds of the tournament will go to a number of charitable organizations including Prince Sultan Social Educational Center in Dammam, Deaf Club and Saudi Hearing Impairment Society in the Eastern Province.
On the sidelines of the tournament, there will be exhibitions of sports photographs, sports products and art works. Cultural evenings will also be organized. People who have made outstanding contribution to the development of the Kingdom's sports and games will be honored during the vent.
