Eng. Fares: 105 million tons of capacity for King Abdulaziz Port
The Director-General of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, Eng. Waleed bin Fares Al-Fares assured that the port has witnessed many development projects in response to the great rise in business in the economic and commercial sector in the Kingdom in line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
Al-Fares said during the meeting Tuesday of the businessmen in the Eastern Chamber held on Tuesday evening, October 1, 2019, which was moderated by the Secretary-General Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Wabel in the presence of the Vice President Hamad bin Mohammed Al-Bu'ali, that the port operates with an operating capacity of 23 coastal cranes STS, 43 berths and 71 RTG handling crane, and four stations on an area of 190 kilometers, with a capacity of 105.48 million tons, where the port handles different types of cargo, including containers and general, solid and bulk cargo.
During the meeting, which witnessed the presence of a large number of businessmen, Al-Fares talked about the project of truck management as a project designed with the latest technology aimed at booking and tracking trucks, through which the work of entering trucks to ports and managing them efficiently in accordance with the port size and absorption.
Al-Faris pointed to the summary of productivity for the first half of this year on the number of containers handled and compared to the same period last year, reaching 887,510 containers, an increase of 18.3% from last year, which amounted to 749,903 containers. An increase of 10.5% over the previous year, which reached 15,210,359.
Al-Fares pointed out that King Abdulaziz Port is open to the business sectors and always mimics its desires to develop in proportion to the available possibilities.
it is noteworthy that King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam was established in the year (1367 AH - 1947) by Aramco in response to the oil industry, where it started operation through two floating berths suspended inside the sea connected by land to the railway length of 13 km to receive the increasing cargo. In 1381 AH / 1961 AD, the new Dammam Port was inaugurated and named King Abdulaziz Port. In 1397 AH, the General Establishment for Ports was established and the port was under its umbrella.
