Customs Officials met with members of the Commission on Maritime Transport and the Trade Commission on May 23, 2009 to discuss topics of common interest.
The event was attended by the Customs official, Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Buq'aawiy and the Chairman of the Maritime Transport Committee, Ihsan bin Farid Abdul-Jawad in order to study topics related to receiving containers at the ports in the region. Customs agents were asked to faithfully abide by the hours of operation on Thursdays. Dealers expressed their willingness to cooperate with Customs agents in receiving empty containers and all present agreed to strengthen cooperation in the event of the arrival of a large number of containers by reporting it 24 hours ahead of arrival.
With regard to docking/delivery permits, some agents said that they could not recognize permits given prior to the arrival of shipments because this is a violation of international regulations. They also discussed the need for cooperation between reliable local and international freight brokers and traders.
