On April 10th, Asharqia Chamber in cooperation with the Institute of Directors in the GCC will launch "Governance Forum in Family Businesses" under the patronage of the Minister of Commerce and Investment Dr. Majid Al-Qasabi, in the presence of a group of international and local experts specializing in corporate governance and sustainability of family businesses.
The head of Asharqia Chamber, Abdul Hakim bin Hamad al-Ammar al-Khalidi, said that the forum comes at a time when the Kingdom is making great efforts to strengthen the continuity of family business because these works occupy a large area in the national economy and its capabilities to absorb many national labor forces.
Al-Khalidi explained that the Forum will discuss a number of topics that are important to institutionalize family businesses, including the latest trends and best practices in family business governance.
It will be highlighted the factors of its continuity and the challenges it faces both legal and family, family charter and a succession plan, and other topics that revolve around family businesses and mechanisms of continuity across generations.
Al-Khalidi pointed to the vitality of the Forum's theme at the local and regional levels that works as an added update to the Chamber's constant discussion about family businesses and the importance of their sustainability.
He pointed out that it is a message that the Chamber is keen to direct to the owners of family businesses the importance of the application of rules and procedures of governance, in addition to providing them with successful experiences in implementing governance procedures and sequencing generations, as well as raising awareness of the challenges they may face in the future.
Al-Khalidi stressed that governance is at the top of the factors of achieving safe transformation, and that the best solution for their sustainability lies in the application of governance procedures, which depends in large part on education and awareness.
He pointed out the importance of the Chamber's attention on this aspect by launching the Family Newsletter "Aelya", which is a specialized family business newsletter, launched by Asharqia Chamber on a regular basis to highlight the most important events and events related to the interactions, in addition to its interest in presenting the successful experiences of local or international family businesses that have been able to move smoothly through generations.
He added that the Chamber sought to intensify the advisory programs in cooperation with local and international expertise houses, as a family business consulting program, which offers its services free of charge to subscribers of family business owners, and has achieved remarkable successes in providing a road map for many companies towards safe transformation and good governance.
