Asharqia Chamber hosts a coastal transport project workshop
A workshop for the coastal transport project for passengers in the Eastern Province was held with the participation of His Excellency Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, Chairman of the Public Transport Authority, His Excellency Eng. Fahd Al-Jubeir, Mayor of the Eastern Province, His Excellency Eng. Essam Al-Mulla, Mayor of Al-Ahsa Governorate, His Excellency Eng. Fahd Al-Mutlaq, the Eastern Region Development Authority CEO, Major General Khaled Al-Shehri, Commander of the Border Guards in the Eastern Province, and Eng. Muhammad Al-Zahrani, Director General of Development and Investment at the Royal Commission in Jubail, on Sunday, Shawwal 21, 1443 AH, corresponding to May 22, 2022 AD, at the headquarters of the Asharqia Chamber, where they were interviewed by the Chamber’s President and Board Member of the Eastern Region Development Authority, Mr. Badr Al-Raziza.
Their Excellencies confirmed that the project enjoys generous sponsorship by His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz, Governor of the Eastern Region and Chairman of the Eastern Region Development Authority Council, and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Ahmed bin Fahd bin Salman, Deputy Governor of the Eastern Region and Vice Chairman of the Development Authority Council. Eastern Province.
During the workshop, the Eastern Region Development Authority CEO, Eng. Fahd Al-Mutlaq, confirmed: "The authority is keen to coordinate with all parties to unify efforts to come up with initiatives and projects that work to achieve ambitions for the development of the Eastern Region."
He added: Today we are witnessing a new start represented by an investment project that is considered the first of its kind in its comprehensiveness and multiplicity of tools in the eastern region, which is coastal transport, which aims to diversify means of transportation and maximize the benefit of waterfronts by activating movement between cities overlooking the Arabian Gulf, and based on the study that is carried out Public Authority for Transport The coastal transport will contribute to creating more than 13,000 direct and indirect job opportunities throughout the project, which will constitute an addition to the region and a new development dimension with the elements it carries in support of economic mobility.
For this part, the President of the Public Transport Authority, Dr. Rumaih Al-Rumaih, said: "The project aims to create promising investment opportunities with a great economic tributary, explaining that the national strategy for transport and logistics allows investment in the maritime transport sector."
Al-Rumaih explained: "The study conducted by the authority focused on analyzing the current situation and reading the local market to know the potential marine routes. The study resulted in five major proposed areas comprising 14 marine routes, seven of which serve the Arabian Gulf."
Meanwhile, the Mayor of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahd Al-Jubeir, confirmed: "The Municipality, in cooperation with government agencies and partners with the private sector, will present a set of pioneering and innovative investment projects in a competitive environment with high transparency and attractiveness, to achieve the objectives of the Quality of Life Program by supporting the elements of tourism, entertainment, sports, and marine activities."
For this part, the Mayor of Al-Ahsa Governorate, Engineer Essam Al-Mulla, said: “The marine route is one of the distinguished future options, pointing out that Al-Uqair port was, in the pre-oil period, the main port of Al-Ahsa Governorate and the interior regions of the Kingdom, stressing that three roads serve the visitor to reach Al-Ahsa Governorate. The marine route through Al Uqair port will be the fourth, and thus is a valuable opportunity for investors.”
The Commander of the Border Guards in the Eastern Region, Major General Al-Khaled Al-Shehri, said: "The maritime transport projects and their accompanying activities are among the tourist attractions for different regions in the Eastern Region, stressing the border guards' support for this trend by working to facilitate investors and passengers and help them achieve the desired goals."
The Director General of the Investment Development Sector of the Royal Commission in Jubail, Mr. Muhammad Al-Zahrani, stated: "The authority is working on developing and increasing the absorptive capacities of its infrastructure in the various cities it supervises and overcoming obstacles and difficulties for private investors to achieve effective participation in development."
For this part, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Asharqia Chamber, Bader Al-Raziza, said: “The many projects, programs, and development initiatives that the Eastern Region Development Authority presents today, and its keenness on the participation of the private sector in them, represents a true translation of the objectives of the Kingdom’s vision and reflects an economic movement capable of making a qualitative leap in the development of The region and stimulating investment in its diverse components, and that given the comparative advantages that our eastern region possesses on the map of national and regional tourism, the project of maritime transport of passengers between the cities of the coastal region is one of the most promising investment projects and the most accommodating of the national workforce, and also supports all of our endeavors with high-performance indicators tourism and urbanization of the region at all levels.
It is worth noting that more than 140 invitations were sent to local and international investors to attend the coastal transport project workshop, which was very popular with investors and the private sector.
