Cautious Optimism in the Possibility of Avoiding "Fiscal Cliff"
U.S. President Barack Obama and the leaders of the blocks in the U.S. Congress expressed cautious optimism in the chances of avoiding passing harsh austerity measures in the United States, but time is running out to reach an agreement before Monday midnight.
Obama said in a brief statement at the White House after a meeting that took more than an hour yesterday evening, with Democratic and Republican leaders in the House and Senate:'' we can still reach an agreement''. He added:'' We had a constructive meeting. I am optimistic to some extent about the possibility of reaching an agreement''.
