SECRETS OF BOARDROOM SUCCESS

Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Commerce and Investment, Dr. Majid bin Abdullah Al Qasabi, the Asharqia Chamber in cooperation with the INSEAD Business School's INSEAD Corporate Governance Initiative is proud to organize the Forum entitled "Corporate Governance in Family Businesses 2017 - the Role of the Board of Directors in maintaining Family Business Continuity".

With the participation of a number of local and international experts, the Forum emphasizes the importance of family businesses for the national economy. It is estimated that t?he volume of investments made by family business into the Saudi market is equivalent to 10% of GDP and 40% of the non-oil GDP which is approximately SAR 22.5 billion.

Family businesses represent one of the greatest commercial entities in any country including Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabian family businesses comprises of 48% of all family businesses in the Middle East and having 62% of the total wealth.

Given the importance of family businesses to operate effectively at the local and international level, the Forum looks into decision-making process by the Boards of Directors, the importance of having diversity among its members, and the balance of power mechanisms. It also highlights how to attract talent from outside the family and ensure the continuity of the company through the generations. Furthermore, a general review of the major challenges faced by the family businesses in the Middle East will be discussed.

Vision of the Forum:

Encourage and support the application of Corporate Governance rules and promote the concept of corporate governance as a modern management philosophy among family businesses in the Kingdom.
