During an extended dialogue session in Asharqia Chamber, the port community system addresses many challenges to customs and ports.
Customs clearance agents in the Eastern Region have proposed a review of the container insurance charges levied by shipping agents on Customs clearance agents.
Asharqia Chamber organized an extended dialogue session on Thursday (29/3/2018) in cooperation with the facilitation committee to improve the performance of the work "Tayseer" and the Council of Saudi Chambers. It was allocated to monitor observations on customs and ports, and then submitted them to the Commission. After the session, questionnaires were distributed to limit the observations and identify the respondents, with a specific box for proposals for solutions.
The meeting revealed the existence of large plans adopted by the General Authority for Ports, which include the following: the introduction of all the actors operating in any Saudi port in an automated system under the name of (ports community); the renewal of the system of information exchange; the many solutions that prevent the speedy completion of the process of clearance; the new regulation of the Standards Authority to make the importer conduct all safety checks of the commodity; as well as the efforts of the Authority to standardize customs procedures between the Saudi ports.
During the meeting, which was attended by a large number of customs clearance agents and investors in import and export, they stressed the importance of activating the process of automatic linking between customs and ports in order to discover all the delay factors in the process of clearance of goods. They also called for financial transactions between the trader and the exporter. They pointed to the need to create special private yards from the ports and other areas dedicated to the ports to achieve the smooth operation in the ports.
