The Saber platform is an important step for consumer goods safety and quality maintenance
The Director-General of the General Department of Product Safety at the Saudi Organization for Standardization, Metrology, and Quality (Saber), Abdul Malik bin Abdulaziz Al-Tuwaijri, confirmed that the launch of the Saber platform is to support quality options for the merchant and the consumer, alike.
He said that the Saber platform is an integrated electronic service that allows merchants of consumer goods to register their facilities in the system and their consumer product data, whether imported or locally manufactured, in order to obtain the required certificates of conformity and certificates of conformity of consignments through the platform for products in the Saudi market.
He added during the workshop organized by the Asharqia Chamber and was transferred directly on Tuesday 22 / December / 2020 that the goals of the platform are to enhance the safety of products and raise the percentage of the conformity index to 80% during the current year 2020, improve the cross-border trade index, reduce the time for customs clearance, and improve the import experience and access the required certificates of conformity, and consumer protection from non-conforming products.
He said that the situation before the launch of this platform witnessed the entry into some markets of some non-conforming consumer products, the emergence of a black market for conformity certificates, and the absence of information to help track products. From here, the platform guarantees the safety of products, speeding up the process of clearance at customs ports and facilitating the process of Monitoring products in the market, and linking them with the person responsible for them (producer or importer) are two actions that the customs clearance of the institutions registered on the platform does not exceed 24 hours for the merchant to receive his goods.
He noted that improvements are constantly taking place on the platform's system to meet the needs of the beneficiaries.
