The construction sector of the Eastern Province will today (June 16, 2012) hold a meeting for the agent classification of contractors at the Asharqia Chamber headquarters with Deputy Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs Engineer Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Mutairi in the chair .
Mr. Saleh bin Abdullah, Chairman of the Chamber's Contractors' Committee and board member of the Asharqia Chamber will attend the meeting. Representatives of a large number of contracting companies and institutions will be present in the meeting.
He invited the business people from the construction sector and those interested to attend the meeting which will discuss several important issues with the objective of coming out with useful recommendations to serve and benefit the sector.
Construction sector contributes greatly to the Kingdom's economy. Its contribution to GDP at constant prices amounted to 60.4 billion riyals, representing 6.9% of the value of GDP at constant prices in 2010. The number of contractors in the kingdom until the year 2010 rose to 2238.
The sector has also seen in the past few years an increase in the total number of permits granted to all facilities in the Kingdom, where the total number of building permits in 2010 increased to 89.8 thousand building permits compared to 85 000 licenses in 2009.
