On Monday, April 29, 2019, Asharqia Chamber and in cooperation with the Saudi Food and Drug Authority will organize a workshop on (Calories and their application mechanism), which is part of the efforts of the Hospitality and Leisure Committee and its activities plan for 2019, that will be held at the headquarter of the Chamber at 10 am.
The workshop aims at introducing the owners of restaurants, cafes, food establishments and those interested in food in general on the initiative of the Authority to develop a list of calories and the mechanism of calculation within the lists of meals restaurants and cafes.
For his part, Hamad Mohammed Al-Buali, the Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Asharqia Chamber and Chairman of the Hospitality and Leisure Committee, said that what the Food and Drug Authority is offering today is a qualitative initiative to list the calorie intake and calculate it as a list of meals for restaurants and cafes will enable the consumer to know the amount of calories in meals and drinks and will push the sector to more competitive and achieve excellence.
He pointed out that the workshop is an opportunity to introduce the owners of restaurants and cafes in the eastern region on how to calculate calories and put them on menus of food and drinks, in addition to identifying the penalties that to be applied to caloric offenders in the list of meals starting next year.
The Food and Drug Authority has committed all food establishments by putting calories on the list of meals and drinks that are offered to the consumer in no later than the end of the current year 2018.
