• Arbitration Management Training Program Begins At Asharqia Chamber

    Asharqia Chamber launched a training program entitled "Arbitration Management" which will be held from May 17 - 20, 2009. The program is part of a series of integrated arbitration programs entitled "Pathway to Becoming a Certified Arbitrator" which was organized by the Chamber in collaboration with the GCC Center for Commercial Arbitration. The program was attended by Khalid Al-Saalih, a member of the Board of Directors for the Lawyer's Center, and by Ahmad Al-Najm, Assistant Secretary-General of the Lawyer's Center.

    Abdur-Rahman Al-Waabil, the Assistant Secretary General for Member Affairs for Asharqia Chamber, said in his opening remarks that the chamber's support for arbitration stems from its being one of the most important means to settle the trade disputes. He indicated that the Chamber's continuous cooperation with the GCC Commercial Arbitration Center has resulted in a number of programs and events related to arbitration. 

    The program will be presented by trainer and legal advisor, Talal Suwfaan, and will include several topics including: Necessary Traits and Characteristics for the Arbitrator, Disputes and Reconciliation During Arbitration Hearings, Psychological Factors In the Success and Speed of Arbitration, Flexibility and the Use of Procedural Rules In Arbitration, Necessary General Knowledge For the Arbitrator, Selecting the Most Appropriate Time and Place For Both Parties In the Conflict, Precautions That Should Be Taken To Avoid Appeals and Requests That Prolong the Conflict, Organization and Understanding Among the Members of the Arbitral Tribunal, Speedy Resolution of the Case, The Adequate Amount of Study Time for the Arbiter Before the Arbitration.

    The program aims to familiarize participants with the most important principles of arbitration procedures, teaching them the most important technical and legal skills in the arbitral process, how to form an arbitration tribunal, and defining the rights, obligations and responsibility of all the parties of the litigation.
    He pointed out that the program will benefit anyone interested in arbitration including lawyers, consultants, government and private researchers, university students, judges who specialize in trade disputes, beginning arbitrators, experts, accountants, engineers, and workers in the legal departments of Commerce and Industry Chambers.
