The CEO of Dammam Airports Company "Daco" Fahad Al-Harbi said that passenger traffic at King Fahd International Airport recorded a growth of 7.5% in the last year 2019 compared to 2018, as the number of passengers through the airport reached 10.8 million general passengers after the entry of 5 new airlines.
This came during Tuesday's monthly meeting for the business sector, which was held on Tuesday evening (01 / September / 2020), with the participation of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Asharqia Chamber, Abdul Hakim bin Hamad Al-Ammar Al-Khaldi, where Al-Harbi stated that the airport at the present time serves about 43 destinations, through 37 airlines It is the third-largest Saudi airport in terms of the number of passengers.
During the meeting, which was held "remotely" and moderated by the Chamber's Secretary-General, Abdulrahman bin Abdullah Al-Wabel, he indicated that the total investable areas at the airport exceeded 237 thousand square meters, which provide a set of investment opportunities available to businessmen, pointing out that the company is working to attract many Of the investments, the development and operation of the closed part of the airport terminal are also being studied.
Within this context, Al-Harbi explained that the company is developing and replacing the baggage handling system, which is being implemented through four successive stages, as the first stage has been completed, which consisted in replacing the entire baggage belt in the arrival area for domestic flights, and work is currently underway to complete the second phase, which will include Replacing passenger registration platforms and their belts, as the project contributes to increasing the passenger registration platforms from 60 to 84 platforms. The implementation of the project is expected to be completed in the third quarter of 2021, God willing.
Al-Harbi added that the total number of commercial companies operating at the airport is 140 companies whose activities vary in various sectors, and there is still room for attracting more companies.
With regard to development projects, Al-Harbi explained that the company has completed 41 projects to develop infrastructure and facilities at the airport, and 24 projects are currently being implemented, and there are more than 70 projects under study.
Al-Harbi reviewed the meeting by presenting the most prominent developments in the cargo village at King Fahd International Airport, which is the first of its kind in the Kingdom's airports. The development of the first and second stages of operating the village has been completed, and the third phase has partially started, which embraces the deposit and re-export area, which allows re-export Shipments without the need to pay customs duties and including light products re-assembly area. The partial operation of the fourth phase has also recently started, including the open logistics area, whose services will be announced soon.
